Help! SQLEXPRESS Command Prompt Installation!

i have a problem installing SQLEXPRESS via command prompt... the installation is successful but the 'sa' account could not login to the server.. here's the command in my batch file.

Code Snippet

Start /wait <exe> /qb INSTANCENAME=MYINSTANCE ADDLOCAL=ALL *AUTOSTART=1 RSCONFIGURATION=DEFAULT SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD=sapwd SQLCOLLATION=Latin1_General_BIN requiresmsiengine=1

and one more thing, i need to run the report server automatically.. thanks! Smile

Which connection string are you using to connect to the database and which exact error message do you get ?

Jens K. Suessmeyer

http://www.sqlserver2005.de

|||im using mixed mode... actually there is no error during the installation via command prompt it's just the 'sa' account could not login and the report server could not be initialized but all the components were installed... is there something wrong with my command in the batch file?

Help! SQL Service Manager is not connected

After completing a successful installing of MSDE build 2000.80.760.0
on my Windows XP Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600 I am
encountering the following issue:
The SQL Service Manager Tray icon indicator is in solid white state and when I
mouse over, it displays "Not Connected = \\".
Attempting to double click the guy results with both the Server and the
Service textboxes being empty. Same when I collapse their drop down
menus, they do not list any database instances. Refresh does not
solve the problem either.
I get the following error in the event log:

sometimes the service manager fails to load the combo with the available SQL
Server instances when they are installed with disabled network protocols,
due to ODBC related "features" at this regard... but your logs seems to
show your instance is running... try typing the server instance name in the
combobox like YourComputerName\VSDOTNET ...

HELP! Restore DTS, Jobs, Etc.

crap! Any immediate help would be greatly appreciated!
Our sql 2000 database server crashed after installing MS's latest patches
and now we're having to rebuild the OS and all the configurations (we've
tried everything else - this is a last resort). The data for the server is
on a separate logical drive, so we should have all the data (also backed
up). The problem is, we have several DTS packages, Jobs, and linked servers
that I'm uncertain how we can "restore."
Is there any method of getting this information back, when we're going to
have to re-install SQL 2000?
Thanks, Jordan
All this information is in your MSDB database. If it is part of your backup
and recovery plan, you will be OK. You may have noticed this during your
backup and recovery test. You did test your plan, didn't you?

|||Yes - i do backup the MSDB. The issue now is, since this is the production
server, i needed to get things online ASAP. So, i tried the "rebuild master"
utility, but my versions of sql server were off a little (they both had sp3a
on them so I'm not sure why). Anyway, to restore services, I simply
attached all my databases and recreated the 6-7 logins that we use.
So, I don't think I can import the MSDB database from my "crashed" server
can I? Won't it overwrite everything I've just done. I'm thinking I may be
able to build another machine and restore the MSDB database to that one,
then move the files from server to server.

but you are correct - the versions must match:
8.00.076 SQL Server 2000 SP3
8.00.818 SQL Server 2000 SP3 w/ Cumulative Patch MS03-031
I'm sure this is much after the fact, but worth mentioning for future
reference.

HELP! Report Manager Error: HTTP status 400: Bad Request

Hello,
I have been struggling with installing SQL Server 2005 Reporting services
for several days now, so I figured that Iâ'd post my experience on this
TechNet to see if anyone has any suggestions. Basically, the Server Manager
always returns â'The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request.â' Iâ've
read similar posts on TechNet, as well as other newsgroups about this issue,
and I will note where I have tried a solution below. Details about the
server this reporting services is being installed on is in NOTE 6, at the end
of this message.
When installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (came with my Visual
Studio 2005) on this server (for development/testing purposes), I choose to
install both the SQL Server Database Engine as well as Reporting Services.
As a test, I use the domain admin account, and install the new 2005 version
as a named instance: â'DEVELOPMENTâ'. When the installation proceeds to the
section to install Reporting Services, the install fails, with a note:
â'Failed on Reporting Services setup:
The setup has encountered an unexpected error while setting reporting
service and share point exclusion path.â'
Sharepoint doesnâ't appear to have anything to do with this (see NOTE 1).
After Reporting Services fails to install, I have to click â'Cancelâ', then
re-install Reporting Services from Add/Remove Programs->SQL Server
2005->Change. During the reinstall, the option to "Install but do not
configure the server" was preselected/disabled, so I had no option to install
and configure. A â'Detailsâ?¦â' button next to this revealed a message, NOTE 2.
This re-install appears to be successful. Since I didnâ't have the option to
install AND configure, I then open Reporting Services Configuration, and
connect to <server>, instance DEVELOPMENT.
In Reporting Services Config, I proceed to install the Report Server and
Report Manager Virtual Directories, give the Web Service the app pool of
DefaultAppPool, and proceed to Database Setup. Since this is a new install
and doesnâ't have a Reports database, I click â'Newâ?¦â' to create the Reports db
on server <server>\DEVELOPMENT using â'Service Credentialsâ'. At this point,
all â'Tasksâ' in the left pane of the Reports Services Config are check marks
except for â'Encryptionâ', which has a !, but I understand this is optional.
Now for IIS:
In IIS, I see both the Reports and ReportServer virtual directories under
Default Web Site, which currently listens on IP: 192.168.16.2, port 80 and
443 (SSL). In prior posts, I see some have achieved success by changing to
â'All Unassignedâ', but I have other web sites that listen on other IP
addresses, so this is not a good option, and shouldnâ't be required. The
DefaultAppPool runs under Identity: â'Network Serviceâ'.
When I go to http://cfsdev/ReportServer, things seem to work, as it just
displays basic text, see NOTE 3. However, when I browse to:
http://cfsdev/Reports, I am greeted with a red error image, along with â'The
request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request.â' There are no events in
the Event Log when this happens. The only details on whatâ's happening behind
the scenes is in a file E:\Program Files\SQL Server 2005\MSSQL.2\Reporting
Services\LogFiles\ReportServerWebApp__03_21_2006_14_06_06.log, details in
NOTE 4.
I have, in prior attempts, changed the ReportServerURL key in the
RSWebApplication.config file under Report Manager to:
<ReportServerUrl>https://cfsdev/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>, but still no
change in behavior. It is currently changed back to itâ's default, see NOTE
5. I get similar results when browsing from a LAN client or on the actual
server computer.
So Iâ'm out of ideas, and I need this development installation to support and
develop reporting apps for my production SQL Server 2005. Anyone with ideas,
please help!
-R. Mariotti
NOTE 1:
I have tried uninstalling SharePoint
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=829114), then retrying the install fresh
(after an uninstall of SQL Server 2005), but the â'Failed on Reporting
Services setupâ' error persists. So share point doesnâ't appear to be the
issue.
NOTE 2:
â'The prerequisite check failed for a default report server installation:
First time install, the SQL instance is either not selected or is not a
local installâ'

>|||Yeah, I had read that solution a few times during my research. Problem is,
the machine is a SBS2003 machine and therefore runs ISA Server with an
internal and external NIC. Additionally, the internal NIC hosts multiple web
sites on different IPs. For example:
ROUTER
|
192.168.1.2 (external NIC)
|
ISA SERVER
|
192.168.16.2 (web site 1)
192.168.16.3 (web site 2)
So you can see that setting "All Unassigned" won't work as I need ISA
Server's web publishing rules to be able to forward requests to a specific
site.
As a test, however, I created yet another test web site, manually re-created
the "reports" and "reportserver" virtual directories, and set the site to All
Unassigned. Still no luck; that test site has since been removed.
Thanks for the suggestion...

1) make up backup copy of both Rsreportserver and RSwebapplication.config
files
2) In RsReportServer.config file change the
<UrlRoot>http://machine/ReportServer</UrlRoot> to
<UrlRoot>http://hostheadername/ReportServer</UrlRoot>
3) And in RSWebapplication.config file, remove the
<ReportServerVirtualDirectory>/ReportServer</ReportServerVirtualDirectory>
and change the
<ReportServerUrl>http://machinename/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl> to
<ReportServerUrl>http://hostheadername/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
4) Recycle the IIS server (ie. start â' run â' iisreset)

I'm afraid this is not Oracle group. This is MS SQL Server group.
Look for comp.database.oracle subgroups.
It's not a client application issue, so do not post it in client
subgroups.
As far as I know there's no way to get that password, but there
may be a way to log in without that password and to reset that
password to a new one (there is in Oracle 8i), but I do not know how.
You could probably also try uninstalling the server and reinstalling it.

Hi Taishi,
Try posting to one Oracle group, instead of three Microsoft SQL Server
groups.

I'm just trying to get an answer ASAP... I still don't have one...

Yeah - stop spamming groups that have nothing to do with Oracle. I just
saw that you posted the same message to yet another two SQL Server
groups. You're wasting bandwith, wasting your time and wasting the time
of all people who are giving their time to help others.
You WON'T get an answer here. These groups are for SQL Server, a
Microsoft product. PLEASE take your questions on Oracle products to the
Oracle groups.

HELP! Installing SQL Server

Help!

I saw the Visual Studio 2005 beta and got that sent out to me. That had some SQL server trial on it. Everything was hunky-dory until microsoft put the free express editions on the web and i downloaded them. I Uninstalled the Visual studio beta and sql server but in the wrong order. I go to install the Microsoft VB Expres edition and that works fine. It gets round to the SQL Server and it fails. Why and how can i solve it?

Many thanks
luke.Have you tried the instructions here?

HELP! activation fails CantCommunicateWithReportServerException

Hi
I have read all of the posts in this group (and others!) but still
can't get RS working. I am installing RS on an XP sp2 machine with
VS2003 and SQL2000 sp4. Installation reports activation failed, but
when I check Keys table in ReportServer db there is a row with the
client as 1 and both key binary values.
I have tried rskeymgmt -d, rsactivate -c "path" which generates a new
key, but I still get
" Unable to communicate with report server. Please verify that the
report server is operational. " when I go to
http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx.
And the log file has
aspnet_wp!ui!f80!19/07/2005-09:47:35:: e ERROR: HTTP status code -->
500
--Details--
CantCommunicateWithReportServerException: Unable to communicate with

etc...
I'd be very greatful if someone could assist as I am tearing what's
left of my hair out!Hi
I have found a solution (may not be the only one!).
So, for anyone who is having the same problem...
1. Uninstalled RS
2. I reinstalled the .NET framework (i think this made no difference,
bu who knows)
3. Granted admin rights to ASPNET and IWAM accounts
4. I reinstalled RS, using a domain account rather than the default for
the NT Service
5. replaced the <assemblies> section in the <system.web> section of the
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting
Services\ReportServer\web.config file with
<assemblies>
<clear />
<add assembly="ReportingServicesWebServer" />
<add assembly="mscorlib" />
</assemblies>
6. Change the following line in both web.config files
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting
Services\ReportServer
and: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting
Services\ReportManager
with <trust level="Full" originUrl="" />
And for me, this fixed it. I <i>really</i> hope this fixes it for you,
too. This has been a REAL pain in the you-konw-what. Why Microsoft
can't get the default installation to work out it is on XP and not 2003
and act accordingly is beyond me.
