HELP! Question about SQL Reporting Services Licensing

Hi,
I urgently need the answer to a question about SQL Reporting Services
licensing.
I need to install SQL Reporting Services on an IIS server that hasn't
got SQL Server installed on it. The Reporting Services database will
deliberately go on a remote SQL Server. I don't want to install SQL
Server on the IIS server - I just want to install SQL Reporting
Services and put in a valid SQL Server license code when prompted
during the setup. However, I can't seem to get a license code from
anywhere as our company has some sort of global agreement with
Microsoft which means we don't get to see the actual license codes.
I'm also told by our licensing guy that SQL Reporting Services isn't
on our Select CDs.
Has anyone else installed SQL Reporting Services on a server that
hasn't got SQL Server on it? If so, how did you do it? I'm genuinely
not after some giving me a dodgy license code - I want to pay for the
license, but I can't seem to get one through our company!!! :-<
Is SQL Reporting Services on Select CDs in a way that means I won't be
prompted for a license code? If not, what are you meant to do if your
company has a global agreement with Microsoft? I'm almost at the
point of going down to PC World to buy a copy of SQL Server, but I
imagine this would be viewed very dimly by my company! There must be
a sensible solution to this.
I really need to know the answer to this VERY soon, so any help with
this will really be appreciated.

RichI have the setup that you are talking about.
I dont think you have to provide the SQL Server license
code while installing Reportinf services.
All you have to do is provide the name of the SQL Server
instance and you'll be on your way to installing RS.

SQL Server license for the machine where you install RS (in addition to the SQL Server license you
have for the SQL Server machine).

need IIS running on it. You could use it only for RS and use your IIS server
for all your other web stuff but RS does not function without IIS.

I've recently implemented SQL Reporting Services on our server, and
here is what I found out.
Reporting Services rides on the SQL Server license. If you install
Reporting Services on a machine with SQL Server, it's no extra cost.
If you install RS on a non SQL machine, all you have to do is purchase
the SQL Server license to cover RS on the non SQL machine.
In our organization, it was included in the Select agreement. I don't
know if we have a different select package than you do though. I did
not need the SQL Server Serial Key to install reporting services, just
notified our IT Software shop that I needed to purchase the additional
license and cut the proper forms.
So all you should have to do is let your IT shop know you need the
licensing to cover an installation of SQL server on your IIS web
server, don't install SQL Server on it, but install SQL Server
Reporting Services onto your IIS server.

Thank you all for your answers to my question.
I think my problem came partly from only previously having used an
MSDN version of SQL Reporting Services (which does prompt for a
license code), and partly from being told by the licensing guy in my
company that SQL Reporting Services isn't on the Select CDs.
I'll go back to the licensing guy and ask him to find it on the Select
CDs.

CD SQL Reporting Services is on? When I did a search on the Microsoft
site's list of Select CDs, it didn't show up, so I'm wondering if it's
on one of the SQL Server Select CDs rather than its own CD?

HELP!

Report services has suddenly refused all access from Internet Explorer (Error
403 - Forbidden).
The only change that has been made to IIS recently (that I am aware of but
others have access as well) is an upgrade from PHP 4 to PHP 5 but other
websites on the same server appear to be working correctly so I'm not
convinced this is the cause of the problem.
Can anyone please shed some light on this or atleast point me in the right
direction to avoid my having to re-install from scratch.

Yes RS was installed to the default website. Do you have any idea what
permissions could have been changed. As far as I can tell everything looks
ok on that front but I could well be wrong.

Help with Web Sync sql 2005 to sql express

OK I finally got the subscriber connected to the IIS server for replication. I am now getting errors when trying to apply the snap shot. Below is the error? Did I setup the publication incorrectly by selecting replication with another sql 2005? Am I supposed to select something different when trying to replicate between slq 2005 and sql express?

I've experienced the same problem but am struggling with the bitwise syntax for disabling the XMLIndex schema option using sp_changemergearticle. Could you provide an example?

Also, as an alternative workaround during development I've been manually commenting out the problem index from the .dri and .sch files in the snapshot:

--WITH (SORT_IN_TEMPDB = OFF, DROP_EXISTING = OFF, ONLINE = OFF)

Obviously it would better to fix the XMLIndex schema option than to have to do this everytime I create a new snapshot!

To remove the XML index, make it 0x00nnnnnn and run snapshot again and sync (reinit).

If it is 0x07nnnnnn, then make it 0x03nnnnnn.
Basically you want to remove the 04 part in it.|||The current schema options on my tables is :

I tried changing it to

0x000000000C030FD1

but that didn't work.

Which CTP are you using? This should be fixed in the further CTPs. Either try the next CTP or there is a workaround below:

Meanwhile you can workaround the issue by disabling the XMLIndex schema option (0x04000000) on the table articles.

Use sp_changemergearticle to change the schema_option to remove this and then the snapshot should be applied correctly.
